NISKA spring snow goose hunt

How South Dakota works

Big weather.
Bigger flocks.

South Dakota is hunt-only — you set up lodging in a nearby town (we'll point you to the right one once the birds settle) and meet us in the dark. The migration stalls against the snow line here, so when a front pins them down the numbers get stupid.

  • Fully guided, all day hunt
  • Big full body spreads, comfortable A-frame blinds
  • Scouted daily — flocks move fast this far north
  • Bird cleaning available for $2 a bird

South Dakota questions

FAQ

Is there lodging in South Dakota?

No — South Dakota is hunt-only. Small-town motels nearby do the job, and once your dates are locked we'll tell you exactly where to stay to be close to the birds. Want lodging included? That's our Arkansas leg.

When is the South Dakota leg?

March into April — the tail end of the migration, right before the birds jump for the tundra. Weather drives everything up here; flexible dates catch the best hunts.

What license do I need?

South Dakota's spring light goose permit, available online from SD Game, Fish & Parks. Nonresidents can buy it in minutes — we'll send you the link and walk you through it before the trip.

How cold is it, really?

It can be genuinely cold — this is the snow line. Layer like you mean it: insulated waterproof boots, heavy gloves, and windproof outerwear. The birds are worth it.

What should I bring?

A 12-gauge, non-toxic shot, ear protection, and serious cold-weather gear. Everything else — decoys, callers, blinds, the plan — is on us.

How does booking work?

Call, text, or send an inquiry and the owner will get back to you, usually same day. A deposit locks your dates; the balance is due before the hunt.
